Michael Jackson to be buried in $25,000 gold plated casket

No matter how you live or die, make sure you depart like a KING who deserves the royal departure more than the King of Pop, Michael Jackson himself. Jackson will be laid to rest in a $25,000, solid bronze, 14-karat gold plated custom casket that has been ordered from Batesville Casket Company. This gold casket is called The Promethean and features a dark blue velvet interior and a hand-polished mirror finish. The same solid bronze casket has been used to bury James Brown. Staples Center will be the site of the public memorial service on Tuesday for Michael Jackson

Doettling designs safe for the $2.5 million Jaeger-LeCoultre watch set

Jaeger LeCoultre approached the German luxury safe company Doettling for the amazing watch safe. Resembling the looks of a travel chest, the safe stands six feet tall and weighs in at 1,800 pounds. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Mechanica set safe features eight watch winders and three lighted holes that house the three watches. The rest of the space inside the heavy safe can be used to accommodate other things. There are magnifying glasses and tools for your watches inside. Limited to 30 units worldwide, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Hyrbis Mechanica watch set will sell for between $2.5 million and $3 million.

Bonhams to sell rare vehicles from Ward Brothers’ collection

When it comes to rare and exotic vehicles, Bonhams has always impressed the auto enthusiasts with their auction catalogues. Bonhams Motoring Department is the largest auction house to hold scheduled auction sales of classic and vintage motor cars and car memorabilia. On Saturday, July 18 at Henley-on-Thames, the auction house will be selling vehicles from one of Europe’s foremost collections of early vehicles - The Ward Brothers’ Collection. The brothers, Toby and Daniel Ward, have a motoring heritage and have got a unique collection of early vehicles. This dispersal sale represents a rationalization of the vehicles and will help the collection to develop further. Leading the sale is a 1901 Panhard-Levassor 2.4-litre Forward Control Cab Phaeton (£200,000-£250,000), the only one of its kind still in existence. Another esteemed veteran up for grabs is the 1896 Benz 5hp Victoria (£140,000-£180,000).

Other highlights include the ex-Alf Briggs and Eric Houseley 1928 McEvoy-JAP motorcycle with a 980cc vee-twin engine (£120,000-£150,000), a multihued 1899 Panhard-Levassor Wagonette (£120,000-£150,000) and a 1911 RMC Seabrook 20hp Roadster that won the Essex Motor Hill Climb in 1911 (£25,000-£35,000). The sale has its focus on the early period of motoring and includes a number of rare vehicles, with some of them last of their kind.

The WoodSmart Racing Car Simulator comes with a real racing seat and a bracket for a LCD television. Electronic music box lets you enjoy relaxing tones for hours

A music box makes a magical sound and once you hear its tinkle, you are never going to forget it. Earlier, we have told you about the Reuge music boxes that arouse a sense of wonder. This time, we have a new electronic music box from Nidec Sankyo Shoji Corp. that is targeted at the elderly music box enthusiasts who want longer playing times and are fed up from the tedious task of winding their machines. The new music box plays for eight hours on two AA batteries and is available in two models. While the 157,500 yen ($1,630) version comes with 50 sound-producing plates, the 189,000 yen ($1,950) version features 72 plates. Customers can select from around 200 different songs available online or in specialty shops. Both the music boxes include a regulation feature. An attractive wind has been attached to the new models. Sankyo President Taizo Tatsumi said, “There were increasing numbers of people calling for long, slow tones they could just relax to, so we did away with our fixation with springs.”

Sophie Matisse paints $16,000 chess set for ‘Beyond the Border’

The granddaughter to well-known painter Henri Matisse has painted five unique chess sets for an exhibition called “The Art of the Game” for the Beyond the Border International Contemporary Art Fair. Each chess set is individually numbered and enjoys a distinguishing design. The Sophie Matisse-designed chess set will sell for a whopping $16,000 at the three-day fair that will take place at the luxurious Grand Del Mar in San Diego (September 2 to 4, 2009). Ann Berchtold, executive director and founder of BTB, said that four of the chess sets have their own unique imagery, but they also come together to create a unique design. San Diego’s first Beyond the Border International Contemporary Art Fair will include national and international galleries featuring over 500 works from all over the world.

Illuminating white glove of ‘The Gloved One’ up for sale

Bidders are fighting for Michael Jackson memorabilia like anything after his unexpected death. Now, one of the only two iconic gloves that Michael Jackson wore during the Jackson’s 1984 Victory tour is up for grabs at “Profiles in History” auction house. The “Suit of Lights” glove is festooned with bugle beads and Austrian crystal rhinestones, and is fitted with 50 small lights. The electric–white glove, which was consigned by glove designer Ted Shell, gets its power from single 9 volt battery placed in the cuff. The auction house said that the King of Pop presented this illuminating glove to Ted Shell in 1986. The buyer of the glove will also receive a signed letter of authenticity by Shell and a signed letter by Judie Mallen of L.A. Marquee Special Lighting Effects. Mallen installed the lights in the glove for the 1984 Victory tour. Joseph Maddalena, who heads auction house Profiles in History, said ...

I estimate [the value] at $60,000 to $80,000, but it could sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The auction house has plans to showcase the iconic piece of “The Gloved One” at its booth at Comic Con, so that his fans can see it up close. The white glove is just one of many Jackson items that will be auctioned off on October 1 and 2, 2009. Recently, 21 items of Jackson memorabilia fetched over $200,000 at Julien’s Auctions.
