Soccer fans wouldn’t want to miss the chance of laying their hands on supposedly the world’s largest leather football that belongs to an Island Bay pensioner, the 76 year-old Mike Bieniowski. Mike has decided to put the ball up for sale, but to the surprise of the auctioneers, he is demanding a staggering price of $1.5 million! The football dates back to 1898, and is in fact created from the hides of 18 bullocks, and weighs 40 kilograms, with a circumference of 5 meters, and a height measuring up to 1.5 meters. The auctioneer of the Dunbar Sloane, Anthony Gallagher pointed out that the price expected by Mr Bieniowski was too far fetched, and easily $1.4 million more than the justified one. But the man himself thinks otherwise, for according to him his possession is invaluable and the best way to give it away was by starting high! Found in 1960 while constructing a building in Newton, Mr Bieniowski put the thing away, only until the previous week when his town was visited by David Beckham.
