Christie’s auction house reported ten world records at a sale of post-war and contemporary art. The work of art that set the records include works by Eduado Chillida, Frank Auerbach, and Georg Baselitz. The auction saw a number of art-works sold at a higher price then estimated including Chillida’s Elogio de la Arquitectura which sold for £1.24m, £500,000 above the highest estimate, three of the star lots with Bacon’s Self Portrait going for £5.16m that is almost three times its guide price and Man in a String Chair (featured here) by British artist Freud fetched £4.15m.
