Looking for a coral-fringed paradise retreat, but a bit tight on budget? Don’t fret, as a number of Australian islands off the Great Barrier Reef are on sale for really low prices, all thanks to the economic downturn. Global real estate agency Coldwell Banker’s Capricorn Coast branch is offering nine islands, with prices starting at $1.3 million and up to $90 million. Some of these tropical islands come with luxury mansions and a few are up for grabs for almost half the price they cost one year back. For a mere $1.5 million, you can buy the Avoid Island, off the Queensland coast. Another example is Long Island, whose $6.5 million price tag has been reduced by 42 percent. Principal realtor Richard Vanhoff told Reuters that islands have certainly have come down in price significantly and that’s a reflection of the global economy. One of the most interesting islands on the list is the Turtle Island, which is being said to be the one that actress Julia Roberts had wanted to buy eight years ago. This island is being offered with all its toys, motorbikes, tractors, motor vehicles and furniture. Once listed at $6.5 million, this island can be yours for a very low price since its owners are ready to take any reasonable offer.
Other islands on the list include Temple Island, Marble Island and the newly listed Hinchinbrook Island. Now, this is what we call a true bargain. If you were always dreaming of having a tropical island of your own, I think it’s the right time for you to go for it.
