A look at this Treadwall and my memories of being stuck midway while rock-climbing, as a kid, comes flashing back. Gosh, I wonder how I managed to climb up half way and then couldn’t budge upwards or downwards….out of fear. But I’m sure a bit of practice on something like a Treadwall can get rid of all the fears and make anyone a pro at rock-climbing. Participate in fun, engaging exercise for your whole body with this wall that runs like a treadmill but at a pace controlled by your own body. Incorporating the Natural Pace Technology, this self-paced, motor-less (for eco-buffs) climbing wall gently moves downward as you climb, always keeping your foot just a step off of the floor.
Designed to be an excellent aerobic trainer, it gets better with the addition of a Polar heart-rate receiver, integrated right into the Treadwalls’ counter-timer unit. Eliminating the need to strap on or start up, a simple turn of the wheel changes the angle of the wall from an easy slope to a severe overhang. Designed to bring the capabilities of an entire climbing gym to the limited space of a health club, school gymnasium or home, its freestanding and compact design allows you to blend it into your environment, with a choice of sizes to fit your facility.
For about $10,000, it definitely a fun way to improve fitness for all ages and abilities!

oh I like this..... quite a simple concept, and it will save lots of bones from breaking too Lol...
Ideal for grownups like me who are scared of heights but would still like the thrill of climbing... maybe they can add visuals which shows the height you have climbed... would love to emulate Tom Cruz in MI :P
Manish, Comments seconded in full.
Looks a very interesting device allbeit a seemingly frustrating one. Would provide a great workout I bet. I won’t value it too much as a practice run for real rock climbing though. Wonder how many people would sign up for an exercise as grueling as this one.
I would sign up for working out on this wall as burning out on treadmills, ellipticals and steppers is kinda getting monotonous.
And though it isn’t actually devised for rock-climbing practice, I’m sure it can be helpful for those intending to practice for it.
This is super-cool, the best of the best. If I had that much money, I’d definitely be rushing to get one.
I have a friend who’s so crazy about climbing he’s got holds fixed on all four walls and the ceiling of his bedroom. So it’ll surely be helpful for those who are into climbing, Deepa!
Agreed. Definitely not a practice for rock climbing, but it sure looks like a great all body workout.
People now a days do get attracted by new and innovative ways of exercising like this latest fad of ”pole exercising” - a new form of exercise for ladies based on sensual/erotic pole dancing!!
This may become a good family attraction in a gym.
Why ”Definitely not a practice for rock climbing....”? Have u ever tried a hand at it?
Deepa, rock climbing is as much a mental activity as physical... as you have mentioned about your own experience of being stuck midway out of fright.
Treadwall may give a great hands-legs-body coordination practice but the height factor is what causes most people from staying away from rock climbing... As I said, if there was a visual added to show height (like in flight simulators), then perhaps it would be great for practice too.
About my climbing, I am too scared of heights to do it ... I am a darpok Lol
Oh and I liked what Jayashree’s friend has done... and won’t cost as much too.
Actually it costs a lot! Holds are quite expensive, which is the reason why I haven’t been able to pimp up my room :(
oh really? :( ... seems like so much fun. Was thinking of putting it up for my little one after he grows up a bit.
Hey Manish, you can always have cheap cement imitations made. The college I was associated with had a simple climbing wall made from bricks that jutted out.
Just make sure you have padding on the floor and use a belay rope for extra security. And hey, the best climbers start the youngest :) and I’m sure you’ll be joining the little one!
Yes, its a good idea... Now that you have mentioned it, I do remember seeing the cement ones someplace.... maybe in some hotel we had stayed...
And so long as its indoor climbings, I do think I can join him. Else I know I will also be stuck like deepa - midway Lol
btw, any idea how much the good holds cost?
No, I don’t :( But you can always call up places like Wildcraft and find out from them. And listen, if you’re really interested in climbing, I’m sure there are climbing clubs in Mumbai and Pune. There’s GOT to be a wall at the sports complex!
And indoor or outdoor, high or low wall, it really doesn’t matter. I’m sure you’ll love it!
May you climb from hold to hold!
hahaha .. ”May you climb from hold to hold!” - Thanks for your support and wishes but I guess I am good with my tracks and jungle walks...
But after discussing it here, I felt climbing will be fun for my little one after he grows up a bit (he is little over 3 now and is a real monkey)... Even spoke about it with my wife who also found it exciting... once again thanks Jayashree the gyan and thanks to Deepa for this post
Aah.. the perfect family sport!
No probs, Manish, you’re welcome anytime!
PS- ”May you climb from peak to peak” is the traditional climbers wish..I just modified it a bit ;)
@Deepa We enjoyed it loads!
Kiddo driving you up the walls, aint he?! Awesome! I was like that too..tee hee!
oh yes Jayashree... all day we are like ”wait don’t do this” ”Wait don’t touch that” ”get down from there right now” lol lol
Hey, its nice to know that you guys enjoyed the Treadwall and came up with interesting and practical solutions and alternatives.
