As the crude oil prices soar sky high, consumers are to worry the least. That sounds freaky. No, I haven’t lost it, but there’s a reason. From petrol, the new buzz in the garages of the carmakers is the green phenomenon. The carmakers like Toyota have struck the initiative, and GM the brand that honks of the Hummer, too doesn’t want to lose out, as the production race of rechargeable electric vehicles heats up the market. General Motors Corp. plans to launch its electric car, the Chevrolet Volt, early next year and put into production by 2010. Hybrid cars promise a lesser maintenance, and keeping in view, GM is the only automaker to have provided a timeline on production of it’s hybrid. Volt boasts of running 40 miles on battery power alone, with an on-board gasoline-powered engine as a backup. Electric power cars have kicked off the green car race, the competition’s stiff and GM’s got it’s neck out.
