Another year has come and gone, and we’re both sad and glad to see it go. Last year, a range of historical, unique, and artistic creations were up for auction and some of them went for record prices. Especially, the two major art auction houses, Sotheby’s and Christie’s, surprised us with some of the auction sales results. Here are the top 10 most hyped auction sales of 2007. Check them out.
1. Damien Hirst’s diamond skull - $100 million
2. Guennol Lioness from Mesopotamian era - US $57.2 million
3. 1937 Henri Matisse painting - US $33.6 million
4. Francis Bacon’s Bullfight - US $45.9 million
5. Francis Bacon’s self portrait - US $33 million
6. Jeff Koons’ hot-pink heart - US $23.6 million
7. Warhol’s iconic Liz Taylor portrait - US $23 million
8. Rare 710-year-old copy of Magna Carta - US $21.3 million
9. Never-seen-before Rothschild Faberge egg - US $18 million
10. Largest brilliant-cut D-color flawless diamond - US $16 million
The mentioned above are my top picks for the most hyped auction sales for 2007 although, there were some outrageously expensive auction sales, including the $71.72 million ‘Warhol’s Green Car Crash’ painting.
