An interesting post over at Pop Sci reports that Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works, who is renowned for creating the U-2 and Blackbird spy planes, is now trying for a different altitude record with an airplane that starts and ends its mission 150 feet underwater. The aircraft titled The Cormorant, will be jet-powered, autonomous aircraft that could be outfitted with either short-range weapons or surveillance equipment. The spy plane ‘floats, flies, eliminate enemy targets and meet the water-launched unmanned enforcer.’10818
