If you always had keen interest in physics then this Liquid Vacuum Clock will remind you of a few age-old principles that were applied to keep time track in ancient times. Water clocks are one of the most ancient time-keeping technologies used by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and Babylonians. This Liquid-Time Sculpture from Bernard Gitton is a modern take on the ancient water clocks.
The timepiece uses a complex system of pipes and siphons to display time. This intricate clock begins when an electric water pump beneath the clock moves the water to the top reservoir which flows into a glass cupel which in turn makes the pendulum tick. This occurs every two seconds, keeping a steady stream of liquid flowing into the clock’s systems of curved pipes and siphons. The disks on the right show the minutes and the spheres on the left show the hours.
Another interesting thing about this modern water clock is that, its minute markers account for 58 total minutes and not 60 minutes. So, if that’s not a problem with you, then maybe the $85,000 price tag might just be a little too heavy on your pocket! And, if you think that’s pretty too much then let me tell you, this is what the 7ft. model costs, the 35 ft. model can reach a whooping $495,000. But, as they say, time is precious and ‘Time is Money.’
