Apple has lately announced newer, faster Mac Pros and new servers. Pricing for the new 45nm-equipped Quad-Core Mac Pro Mac pros start at $2799, but you have the option to configure them up to several thousand dollars. The high-priced options include 32 GB of RAM ($9100), the NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 video card ($2850), four 15,000 RPM hard drives ($800 each), two 30″ Cinema Displays ($1700 each), a Fibre Channel Card ($1000), and an unlimited-client copy of Mac OS X Server ($999). If you go for all the high-tech expensive bits, the total asking price becomes $26,623. Same is the case with Apple’s new Xserve server. Configuring your Xserve to build the system of your dreams could cost you $82,841, if you go after all the major configuration options. Mac OS X Server Software support alone comes for a whopping $30,000. I hope Jobs is not the man to do that.
