laxmi mittal

When Forbes listed 10 richest soccer team owners last year, their combined net worth was $160 billion, but then came the global economic downturn, and this year the 10 billionaires have a collective fortune of less than $90 billion. Figures aside, India-born steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, having a net worth of $19.3 billion (€14.6 billion), has topped Forbes magazine’s list of soccer billionaires. Although football isn’t very popular in India, the game has made Lakshmi Mittal the world’s richest soccer club owner. Forbes has cited that the steel baron tops the list, despite his team not being worth all that much. Mr. Mittal is a stakeholder in Queen’s Park Rangers, a team that doesn’t even play in England’s top league. Mr. Mittal was at the eighth number on the Forbes list of the world’s richest people released last month. The India-born steel tycoon is followed by Amancio Ortega of Deportivo De La Coruna team with a net worth of $18.3 billion and Microsoft’s co-founder Paul Allen with $10.5 billion.
