Ski-lovers will have one more ski-destination to look forward to with Snowdome, ski resort, Dubai. After, the indoor ski-resort, Dubai is all set for its new $1billion Snowdome ski-resort. The prestigious project will sprawl over more than 1.4 million square feet and will consist of a dome, a self-standing structure with a 220 metre diameter and 75-metre height. Snowdome will include a snow and ice leisure park, a deluxe hotel designed to look like an iceberg and a huge revolving ski slope, going through and around an artificial mountain range.
Snowdome will be the biggest free-standing dome in the world that will provide its visitors leisure winter wonderland like experience, all the year round. The project will be completed in 2008. The snowdome project was initially launched in 2000, but the project has been expanded since its announcement to include more attraction, entertainment, residential apartments and condominium hotel units.

Was searching around for information on snowdome dubai and found this useful article which stated that it will be part of dubai’s mega tourism project, Dubailand.
I have seen some coverage about this project a while ago in a TV report concerning the already existing Ski Club of Dubai. In that report one of the guys planning this dome admitted that the technological challenge of deep-freeze-cooling a 75 m high glass dome in the middle of a desert is yet unsolved. Of course this task is a little tougher than in the existing Ski Club which has solid walls several meters thick. I am looking forward to see if the bottomless financial resources of Dubai will send us some technological breakthrough until 2008...

They sure are building some amazing things in Dubai. I am familiar with that huge Dubailand (think Disney World on steroids) project because a friend of mine invests in real estate and he bought a residence in a condo hotel that will be next to Dubailand. He says he’ll get rental income for a few years and then sell his condo hotel unit at a profit.
