Anybody remember the Jetsons animation series that used to dominate the prime time scene when Cartoon Network first took the world by storm with the coolest Hanna-Barbara cartoon shows? The futuristic show apparently left a deep impact on many young minds that grew up with the dream of recreating similar transport system a reality for their own generation. developers at the American company UniModal Transport Solutions have proposed a very high capacity and ultra high speed Personal Rapid Transport (PRT) network that takes a leaf out of the Jetsons’ book with the only dissimilarity being that the SkyTran is propelled and suspended by a maglev system on overhead guideways. The individual/two-seater vehicles will be connected to a large number of small departure/exit portals laying underneath the guideways at approximately 400 meters or at every city blocks.
This would enable passengers to simply pop into the first empty vehicle they come across, select their destination and enter the acceleration lane that will then enter the overhead guideways and vroom past other stops at 160 kilometers per hour within city limits or 240 kilometers per hour between cities till your selected destination is close by wherein your vehicle would enter the deceleration lane and let you pop off at your stop. That’s simple enough, isn’t it?
