Sir Richard Branson is one big billionaire who really knows how to live life full throttle. To let his staff at Virgin Airlines also be a part of the good life, Sir Richard bought the Makepeace Island situated in the middle of Queensland’s Noosa river for a whopping $2.3 million. This island is now being converted into a Balinese style resort for Virgin Airlines’ staff to chill out. Lately, the project has run into some trouble with environmentalists crying foul over the widespread felling of trees to build the island resort. Noosa’s council has also decided that it will not let Sir Branson build a clubhouse and a helipad. Coming to the building plans, the Queenslander timber house which has adorned the island for all of 85 years now has been shifted to the centre of the island and will have three villas added to it. A lagoon pool, tennis courts and landscaped gardens will further enliven the ambience. The entire setup will be on stilts to escape the floods, if any.
Meanwhile, a Virgin Airlines spokesman said that afforestation efforts would be undertaken in the Makepeace Island once this project gets completed. Knowing Sir Richard Branson’s commitment towards the environment, we think that this island will soon get back it’s lost greenery and along with that a nice little resort too.
