Sharp had previously displayed the world’s thinnest and lightest LCD, and at the IFA 2007 they unveiled a one-inch thick LCD panel that will be released in 2010. The next-generation TV, which the Japanese consumer-electronics maker hopes to begin mass-producing, is certain to help Sharp maintain profits, with the prices of conventional LCDs falling continuously.
Earlier the one-inch LCD TV was thought to be produced on experimental basis. The highlight would be a 131-inch version, illuminated by some ’secret technology’. The company refused to disclose further details about it.
Sharp’s Corporate Communications PR-Manager, Martin Beckmann declined to comment when asked whether the LED lit the panels.
Sharp is heading to be size leader of LCD TVs. With a screen 23 mm thick and 32 mm in addition to the back box and grill, they are sure to rule the market of thin TVs!
These amazing looking TVs will be made at Sharp’s new plant in Osaka, which is famous for making their solar panels.
