A rare 7.28 carat pink diamond was recovered from Rockwell Diamonds (RDI) Holpan operation in Kimberley, in Northern Cape, which went off for a stunning $145,000 per carat, making the company richer by $1.054 million. Diamonds of this color are extremely unique and only the Argyle mine in Western Australia is known to produce such gems frequently. Rockwell CEO John Bristow was excited to have recovered a pink colored diamond from the company’s Holpan operation. The company’s sale of $145,000 per carat value for a stone makes it a record price for a diamonds sale by the company, since early 2007, when it acquired its 51 percent ownership in the HC Van Wyk Diamonds alluvial diamond operations and projects in South Africa.
