Here comes a new humanoid service robot that looks to be a good rival to our much-loved Honda’s Asimo. The REEM-B from Spanish company PAL Technology is just a prototype at the moment and is able to steer autonomously around buildings, identify and interact with people and objects and bear heavy weights. Top speed is a bit less than one mile an hour. The 1.47 meter tall robot is not as sleek and sexy as the Honda’s Asimo, but it does override Asimo in case of strength. His hands can do some great, complicated movements. REEM-B has the ability to make out voice commands, map the surrounding environ and work for you for two hours on a single battery charge. Speaking of its strength, the REEM-B can lift up to 25% of its own weight. Well, it might take some more time for the prototype to meet realism, but the current trend simply points to a robotic era where we are surrounded by robot servants helping around the house, performing all the household chores.
