
Collecting fossils has had an appeal to the serious collectors. So, for those who have remained undeterred in spending a precious chunk of their wealth to hoard items of interest to them, here comes a chance to own a piece of history with a 150-million-year-old dinosaur for sale! The fossilized dinosaur is offered to private collectors in the in the face of the economic crisis. The 9-foot-long creature known as Dryosaurus altus, posed in a full-tilt run, dates back to the late Jurassic period. “It was food for everyone else,” says Cliff Miles, CEO of Western Paleontological Laboratories in the Lehi, Utah. Western Paleo is offering the dinosaur on March 21 at a natural history auction of stones in New York City. There is only one other mounted skeleton of its kind in existence, which makes it the star of the sale, and is estimated to be worth $440,000 to $500,000. The famous personalities who have earlier indulged in fossils investment include former Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people) executive Nathan Myhrvold and celebrities Brad Pitt, Leonard DiCaprio and Nicolas Cage.
