We have already seen some splendid home theater set-ups in the past, including the Death Star Theater, Titanic home theater, Star Trek home theater, Indiana Jones-themed home theater, Goldmund Media Room, the $3.4 million In-house cinema, and the state-of-the-art $100K Five-in-One and the Cyberdyne Cinema. Now, what happens when a hardcore ‘Pirates of a Caribbean’ fan visits Disneyland? He goes home and builds a home theater just like a movie set of the Pirates of the Caribbean. That is exactly what Paul Konold has done and converted his home theater into an all new experience room. The home theater has its arched walls painted with murals from the Pirates of the Caribbean. This, combined with some lighting trickery gives the home theater a thrilling look replete with some knick knacks from Disney. The theater also has a lobby upfront, known as the Lafitte’s landing, which also takes the Pirates’ theme further with its wood planks, barrels and gold. Yes, Paul has taken realism to an all new high by having real gold coins implanted in the lobby.

Traversing the lobby brings you to one more treasure that a lot of Pirates’ aficionados would love to experience, the Bar. The Bar too has a distinctive pirates’ theme with treasure maps, gold coins and custom pirates’ accessories which make drinking one hell of an experience. The illuminated glass adds a mystic look to the entire bar area. The Theater in itself measures sixteen by twenty seven feet and the lobby comes in at sixteen by ten feet. The key components of the set-up include Carver amplifier, Microsoft Xbox 360, Panasonic projector, Polk Audio M5 Surround Speakers, and Toshiba A35 HD-DVD Player.

A huge screen that displays both 16:9 and 2.35:1 does video duty and the audio equipment is neatly tucked into the walls to make it invisible. And here is the biggie, this entire project is a do-it-yourself with Paul doing all the hard work for 12 long months and spending about $30,000 to make it a resounding success.
