Derryn Hinch is the lucky man who placed the winning bid for a one-off, 60th-anniversary Scrabble set made of Swarovski crystals. He is an expert on the popular board game and has written two books on the subject. This Swarovski-encrusted game was designed to mark the 60th anniversary of this cult game. The Diamond Anniversary Edition features an exclusive glass board encrusted with more than 30,000 Swarovski crystals. Each sparkling crystal was meticulously selected to match the scrabble board’s signature colors and the board is hand-crafted. Hinch bought the specially-commissioned, celebrity signed board on eBay for a whopping $30,000. Hinch, on getting the sparkling game, said…
It is valued at about $30,000 and I got it. This is the ultimate bling. It is my Christmas present to myself.
Earlier, this 60th Anniversary Scrabble set was expected to go for between $5000 and $20,000. Hinch had to spend an extra $2000 to airfreight the Scrabble set to Melbourne.

Don’t believe everything you read, the story is a bit misleading, Hinch only paid US$7600 for it. It’s easy to check out on eBay.
