
If you love wines, but somehow lack the expertise to discern good wine from bad wine then you definitely, need assistance when filling-up your bar. And, if you don’t like taking favors from others than how about getting your own personal expert to choose it for you! Researchers at NEC System Technologies and Mie University have designed a robot that can taste and is able to identify dozens of different wines, cheeses and hors d’oeuvres. The green-and-white prototype has eyes, a head that swivels and a mouth that lights up whenever the robot talks. The robot identifies a wine with the help of the infrared spectrometer on its left arm. And, as soon as it analyses the wine, it speaks up in a childlike voice. It names the brand and adds his comments on the taste, and even tells its owner, what kind of foods might go well on the side. So, in case, you are bad at deciding the proper menu for the party, you have expert’s advice!
The robot can be programmed to recognize the kinds of wines its owner prefers and recommend new varieties to fit its owner’s taste. Besides, suggesting wines, it will also alert its owner to possible health issues, gently warning against fatty or salty products. Though, there is no word on the price yet, but, nonetheless, the 2-foot-tall robot is expensive. The lab autorities reports that, “Buying one of these would cost about as much as a new car. But, they plan to bring that down to $1,000 or even less for the tasting sensor. But, then the electronic sommeliers is just a prototype as-of-now!!
