Lynn McCroskey, a former IMAX sound engineer, took a novel, fascinating approach when he was constructing his dream home in a hamlet of Birmingham. The 6,000 sq. feet cedar and stone home has been put up in a hushed forested valley in the lap of the Mother Nature. Preset ’scenes’ further add to the beauty of the isolated home. For example, the lights automatically turn on and the A/C gets on to a comfortable level as soon as you open the door. Lynn says that he wanted his home to look something like it has grown out of the ground. No doubt, he has really done that.

The scenic beauty is not the only thing that makes Lynn’s home unique. The interiors of the house are skillfully framed in African mahogany and lighter Southeast Asian woods. A back-up generator is there top take care of the unexpected power cuts. A Vantage Controls system, which takes acre of all the lighting and air-conditioning systems, checks for when the generator in on and starts one A/C at a time as it’s not efficient enough to put on all the A/C system. The control system even turns the water off when they are not home.

I think that the nature is never at its best without any punch of music. Well, the Lynn’s home is a musical home. I mean to say that there is a whole-house audio system running right through the house. The digital quality sound that is sent over the high-speed Category 5 data wire keeps interference at a bay. For a technophile like Lynn’s wife, Jenifer, the system also touts one-button controls. Apple iPods are there so that they can be hooked to the Zon system to stream music throughout the house over speakers. The space selected for the home theater is entirely isolated from the rest of the house. The home theater enjoys the very same acoustic techniques as found in IMAX theaters. The gorgeous and powerful studio-grade custom speakers are accompanied by a Sharp DLP projector and a woven Draper screen.

Quietly located in the lap of nature, Lynn’s home binds beauty, technology, and state-of-the-art innovations altogether.
