This Wednesday, the Christie’s shall witness an auction of the works of some legendry artists, like Charles Blackman, Frederick McCubbin and Sidney Nolan, in the historic sale of modern Australian art. The renowned ‘Alice Amongst Flowers’ (1958) is estimated to fetch around $370,000 to $555,000 at the auction, which will also feature a painting ’sleeping Schoolgirl’ (1954) by Blackman, besides ‘Ned Kelly’ by Nolan and some exquisite works by the late Brett Whiteley. The auction aims at displaying the growth of Australian art, from the impressionists to the post-war and consequently to the present day one. Nicholas Lambourn, the head of the sales at the Christie’s remarked that with the international growth in the market of Australian art, he envisaged London as the perfect platform for the first-ever sale of the contemporary Australian art in Europe.
