At the age of 88, Maria Felix, the Mexican film star better known as La Dona, left this world. Also known as Mexican Marilyn Monroe, the late star acted in many films, including a fabulous role as Dona Barbara, a 1943 Latin American classic which narrates the story of a Venezuelan woman who is raped and later dresses in men’s clothes oppressing a ranch. Now, belongings will be auctioned off at Christie’s in New York on July 17 and 18.

La Dona had a long list of lovers, was married four times, and is said to be having the most beautiful face in the history of Mexican cinema. Her beauty, style, and dramatic flair won the hearts of adoring fans in both Europe and the Americas. She was an avid collector paintings, furniture, couture gowns and jewelry. A painting, which was created by artist Leonora Carrington in 1965, is estimated to sell for $500,000 to $700,000. A portion of the proceedings will benefit the Mexican Red Cross.
