nocturne radio 1

Up for auction at eBay is a 1935 blue mirror and chrome Nocturne radio designed by the Machine Age master Walter Dorwin Teague. Designed in 1935, the retro radio reminds you of something out of a Buck Rogers serial. According to the Norwest Collection catalogue on Modernism, only 10 models of this radio are know to exist. With a circular blue- mirrored face and geometric chromed fittings, this radio was a truly modern design for that time. The Nocturne’s contemporary style was described in an advertisement as “A daring and brilliant ensemble in glass and metal by Walter Dorwin Teague…A circle of midnight blue Tufflex mirror glass rests in a satin chrome cradle.” When it was brought to the shelves in 1936, its $375 price was a hefty price cost that would have limited its sales. Anyway, the historical Nocturne radio is expected to sell for between $80,000 and $100,000.
