KEF, the company that has enthralled us with the $130K Ross Lovegrove-designed MUON speakers, has now let loose several new models to join its escalating KIT range of ‘Instant Theatre’ systems. At £1200, the new KIT120 is a 2.1 channel system equipped with a table stand monitors and a subwoofer. Although it has only two speakers, but it promises to enrich our ears with sterling sonic performance by combining vertical NXT radiator speakers with the single Uni-Q concentric driver. The driver makes for much wider dispersion than your standard driver. Next in the line are the KIT140 and KIT160 systems, which offer seven and eleven drivers respectively in each floorstanding column speaker. They do come with Uni-Q array technology in order to disperse sound efficiently. These two retail at £1500 and £2000 respectively.
Next three models, the KIT510, KIT520, and KIT530 are examples of the KEF ‘egg’ 5.1 systems. The KIT510 comes with 7.5cm Uni-Q drivers while the KIT520 with 10cm arrays. The KIT530 rocks 11.5cm drivers and touts sealed suspension technology and a dedicated centre channel. These three systems will set you back £1300, £1500 and £1700 respectively. Then comes the KIT540, followed by KIT550 priced at £2000 and £2500 respectively.
KEF is also planning to introduce wireless versions of the KIT530 and KIT540 systems, called the KIT570W and the KIT580W, which will boast wireless rear speakers. So, you are loaded with options to choose the best among these new KEF HTIBs (home theater in a box).
