The questioning time is over and we are here with the cool answers from The Weird Hunter-aka-our this week’s cool geek, Jennifer L. DeLeo.

1. Vikas: It seems, that you’ve a passion for things that surpass the ordinary. Is it inherent?

Jennifer: I guess I’ve always been fascinated with things that are different and unique. Honestly, the weirder a product is, the more fun it is to write about!

2. Renee: Jennifer, how many hours do you spend digging the net?

Jennifer: Oh boy–tons! It can be tough finding products that aren’t what consumers typically see, so it’s definitely a challenging task. So if I haven’t found what I’m looking for at work, I’ll go home and Web surf even more, probably a total of 50 hours per week.

3. Davis: Is technology really going green or right now is it just a PR exercise?

Jennifer: It’s hard to say. I’d like to think that companies are seeking alternative ways to manufacture products and provide recycling programs, but not all of them are. Dell and Apple are doing a great job with offering computer recycling programs, but that’s not enough. Companies should not only be responsible for their offerings, but also what happens to their offerings after they become obsolete or people don’t want them anymore.

4. Juergen: Jennifer, I would like know what was your first gadget which made everyone else around you jealous?

Jennifer: Hahaha I think I’m more jealous of other people who have gadgets that I want! But, I guess I’d have to say my iPod mini, because at the time, not many people had an MP3 player, and I’d get constant stares on the train going to work!

5. Naveen: Hi Jennifer, whatever you say (”I never really considered myself a geek
in the “tech” sense.”), your posts don’t speak the same. Let me know one thing. Since the technology focused blogs amongst all are the most ferociously competed ones, what gives you that edge above the others?

Jennifer: I love writing for Gearlog. We have such a distinct voice. We may not write about EVERYTHING that comes to market like most blogs can, because Gearlog is just one aspect of our jobs at PC Magazine. But I know that whenever I do write about a product or service, I always seek out links to the original source and the company, and where you can purchase the item. Hopefully our readers appreciate that! Plus, we don’t really try and compete with the other technology blogs. We just go about our day and hope that in the end, readers will keep coming back.

6. Kim: You work on wide variety of subjects including weird gadgets, technology reviews, software and application based stuff and also radio show. How do you manage to do so many things all at the same time?

Jennifer: I manage by taking deep breaths every now and then! Plus, I’ve always been great at multi-tasking; I think I thrive on it. It makes the job more challenging IMHO. Of course, sometimes I wish I had more time to write product and software reviews because there are so many things out there that are worth testing and showing to the world. And vendor events–most of the time I have to turn down invitations because I just don’t have the time to attend them.

7. Nandini: We always ask this question to our female Cool Geek of the Week. So keeping up with the tradition, Who do you think is the “Sexiest Geek Alive”?

Jennifer: Wow–that’s actually a hard question. I can’t think of any geek off the top of my head who’s also known for their looks! I’d have to go with someone a lil less known, like my boyfriend! He’s a web developer and definitely sexy in my eyes!

8. Team: We are certain that you read plenty of blogs daily, but if asked to pick out 5 at the moment, what would they be and why?

Jennifer:
Gearlog–it’s the blog I write for and we really enjoy testing and finding the coolest gadgets out there.
Coolest-Gadgets–I love this site because it also finds some of the weirdest products, and it has a lot of categories to choose from when browsing. I like that kind of specificity.
EverythingUSB–Another site I visit daily because I love reading about the strangest USB devices.
Gizmodo–Can’t have a favorite blog list without Gizmodo! They post so much content it’s unbelieveable. I met one of the Gizmodo guys in NY too–he was really nice and down to earth.
SciFi — I enjoy the Tech section of SciFi. They’re always covering the latest science and technology products and concepts. And I dig the site design.

9. Team: What would be your 3 tips for novice bloggers to make it to Cool Geek of the Week?

Jennifer: –Be able to tolerate technology–even when it crashes on you sometimes!
–Show your unique side.
–Beg really hard.

10. Paul: Recent developments in the tech industry you are excited about?

Jennifer: I’m infatuated with the Nintendo Wii. The SideShow capability in the Asus laptop is pretty cool. What Horizon is doing with its hydrogen-powered R/C cars is amazing. And Intellifit’s Virtual Dressing Rooms, where you stand inside this booth and you can virtually try on clothes, could be the wave of the future.

11. Greg: Do you think recent Microsoft announcement of selling $3 software to
developing countries is only a marketing ploy or they really want to help poor but talented developers?

Jennifer: Bill Gates has given lots of his time and money to charities. I truly believe that he and Microsoft want to help the less fortunate.

12. Your views on BornRich & Instablogs Community?

Jennifer: There’s definitely a niche for luxury tech, and BornRich does a great job of covering those high-priced, high-tech products. I think it’s wonderful that you take time out to feature “cool geeks”. And I didn’t realize that the Instablogs community was so large!
