A giant white truffle weighing 1.5 kilograms went off in a bid to the Macau casino mogul and billionaire Stanley Ho for an astounding $330,000 at an auction on Saturday, who outbid personalities of Damien Hirst and Sheik Mansoor Bin Zayed al Nahyan fame! The truffle beat the previous Guinness World Record holder truffle, the 1.29-kg truffle that was found in Croatia in 1999, to become the biggest one in the world. Stanley Ho gets the distinction of topping the previous record of a $212,000 truffle, in a bidding that went off simultaneously in Florence, London and Ho’s Grand Lisboa hotel in Macau. The proceeds from this auction will go to charity. This pricey fungus was dug up by the truffle hunter Luciano Savini’s dog in Italy on November 23, who was elated to have discovered the biggest and most expensive truffle of the century.
