Its Monday……time to get back to work…..so cutting the blah out, lemme get straight to the point. Since we have been following an array of interactive tables, here’s one more for your eyes only. This Multitouch-Table was devised by Fraunhofer-IGD for interaction in and with virtual environments. Whispered to be the largest integrated table-solutions available at 150 x 90 cm, it innovatively uses optical method to track the user’s finger. The table runs on Linux and uses the InstantReality framework for displaying and interacting. By means of InstantPlayer you can instantly display any existing VRML97 or X3D scene on the table. Using multi touch input on the one hand and 3D data visualisation on the other, the user can almost touch the 3D content and seamlessly interact with it. Thus, the Touchtable itself becomes an incredible and unique tool for the presentation and explanation of advanced processes along the value chain of plant engineering and construction.
Implementing rotating and scaling, the former action uses just one finger and the rotation is bound to a fixed axis depending on the content shown. While the scaling was implemented using two fingers, akin to iPhone screen. Also the user can change the speed of the animations by using one finger and moving it left or right.
Absolutely intuitive, easy to learn and low complexity ensures a facile and smooth access to this new medium.
