
Up for auction at Sothbey’s on 14 November will be a Francis Bacon painting of a bullfight, which is valued at more than $35 million. Origin of this game dates back to 711 A.D. Dubbed ‘Study for Bullfight No.1, 2nd Version,’ the painting is one of three images of toreadors fighting with bulls. The painting was completed by the artist in the year 1969. As quoted by Tobias Meyer, Sotheby’s contemporary art chief, bullfighting was a symbol of artistic struggle and power fro bacon. This painting will be offered along with a 1969 Bacon self-portrait from the same collection, valued at more than $15 million. Earlier, a bacon painting titled ‘Study for Innocent X’ was sold for a record price of $52.7 million.
