robber baron

Many designers and design houses from around the globe exhibited works and sold many limited-edition pieces at last weekend’s Art Basel Miami and Design Miami events. During the event, Belgian design firm Studio Job sold a limited edition suite of five pieces, called Robber Baron to a private collector for a whopping US $700,000 within the first hour of the show. Commissioned by owner Murray Moss, the suite comprises of polished cast-bronze furnishings, including a cabinet with a hollowed-out bomb crater and a jewel safe with a jack-in-the-box. A Moss brochure states Robber Baron as a riff on “the outrageous excesses of America’s 19th century tycoons and Russia’s new oligarchs.”
