Many of us have used an ordinary tool called ‘Etch A Sketch’ in our childhood but, did you ever think it could make money for you? Well an artist Jeff Gagliardi has earned a name for himself with a most eccentric method to create ‘etch art’. He replicates great works of art on Etch A Sketch and some of his drawings are valued at over £5,000.
Over the last 35 years, he has reproduced masterpieces made by Van Gogh, Dali and Leonardo da Vinci. Interestingly, Jeff didn’t even have an Etch-A-Sketch as a child. For your info, The Etch A Sketch dates back nearly 50 years when it was invented by Arthur Granjean. It was picked up at a European toy fair in 1959 by Ohio Art company president HWWinzeler who launched the toy one year later.
His sketches normally command between $1,000 and $1,500 US each.

Nice work. It seems most artists that I’ve come across tend to want to copy and re-create already existing art and fail to create original pieces of their own. I certainly don’t mean to take anything away from anybody that draws and creates anything an EAS, and I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into EAS art. I currently have about 15 pieces completed. If anybody is interested in seeing more EAS art, It’s currently living at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/etcha/
At least until my main site is finished. (http://www.etcha.net)
