British Artist Damien Hirst has a predilection for bizarre. His art creations are rather uncanny. But even more striking is the fact that in the ongoing economic crisis, his latest collection has still generated enough greenbacks to rescue a bank or two. Richie Richs came from all quarters to participate in a two-day exhibit titled “Beautiful Inside My Head Forever.” They came in and spent to the tune of $200 million (approximately) at Sotheby’s in London (Global meltdown, yeah in your dreams!). And what did they buy? A bizarre collection of animals soaked in formaldehyde. That several of these art creations were made of precious metals had something to do with the other-worldly price tags. Among all the pieces, The Golden Calf – a pickled calf with golden hoofs and horns – went in for $18.3 million. And those not in to funny animals paid a measly $9.4 million for manufactured diamonds in a stainless steel cabinet tagged “Fragments of Paradise.” So while your investments hit rock bottom, we all know who’s had a big fat payday!
