We’re pleased to announce Tony Pikus as our Cool Geek of this Week. Quite mesmerized by design, aesthetics and, of course, technical aspects of appliances, Tony is busy most of the time sharing his interaction with these machines via Appliancist and spend rest of the time tweaking databases or helping bad credit folks.

Tony in his own words:-

I am Tony Pikus, 41 year old living in Illinois. I got Master in Mechanical Engineering in 1991 from University in Illinois and suffered as Research Engineer ... then in 1997, I switched to computers and worked as Oracle Database Admin for number of companies till 2002. There I became a mortgage broker (an honest one) and originated quite a few home loans. About the same time, my big brother Joe, who together with his wife Lilian would create Trendir few years later, literally made to start thinking of “doing websites”. In 2003 we came up with Bad Credit Advisor, a free site dedicated to everyday credit and debt problems with everything in-between. Then it became a blog.

In 2006 I started writing for Appliancist after searching in vain for more or less detailed information on Zanussi and Boretti brands, which friend of mine saw in Europe. Writing about appliances is very rewarding as there are few aspects to cover - gadget side, design side, technical side, even aesthetic side. They are constantly evolving and changing quite dramatically. Also those who live in US and Canada will sometimes miss on the coolest European and Australian trends and vice versa, so Appliancist is trying to mesh that together. Plus other countries are emerging as well.

Besides writing for Bad Credit and Appliancist, I do have 9 to 5 job, still with Oracle databases.
