With so many luxury cars stepping in the green arena, it’s clear that drivers with overweight wallets don’t need to sacrifice driving performance for fuel efficiency. The latest brand to join the bandwagon of green luxurious cars is Bentley with its Continental DC (yeah DC stands for Direct Current) electric car. And its not that people who can afford this brand will go for this green baby only because of the rising gasoline prices. It’s actually out there to lure all the well heeled to do something for their environment. And what better way of doing it then by driving a Bentley! Although not very good-looking, this battery powered car is powered by a 24-volt electric motor producing 0.5 horsepower and 5.1 pound-feet of torque. More flavor is added by a pair of 12-volt batteries.

Designed for lightness and maximum power efficiency the one-seater Continental DC has a carbon fibre chassis and low resistance tires. The miniature Conti DC weighs only 265 pounds and can hit a swift 40 mph under its own power. The cockpit is trimmed in supple hide and Alcantara faux suede with contrasting diamond stitching.

Bentley Motors apprentice team has won a special ‘Spirit of Greenpower’ award for its performance in the Greenpower Corporate Challenge which took place at Goodwood race circuit yesterday. Obviously it was the Conti DC that got them this honor. This green baby Bentley and the Greenpower Team is set to compete in the upcoming Formula 24+ season, which consists of eight 90-minute endurance races, the last one at Goodwood.
