It seems the designer started designing sneakers for kids but mid-way decided to create something unique and the result is in front of you to see! The weird looking Sportiletto was the talk of Balenciaga’s Fall 2007, designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere for the fashion house.
The inspiration for the colorful footwear is said to come from the snowboarders but I doubt that! They steal their vibrance from the fisher-Price 1-2-3 Roller-skates, which were the most sought after item by children, back in the1980s. They both share the material they are made of, which mainly is the colored plastic, and have identical Velcro straps.
The biggest question that comes to my mind is what they are meant to be put on with, except for the obvious grey tights and jodhpurs, worn by the models! I’m not even sure whether a middle aged woman will be able to carry the childish looking shoes as comfortably as a sporty young girl.
If you still want to put your feet in one of the pairs, hang on... for you have not heard the price yet. They cost for a massive $ 1,419, which, my dear friends, is cheaper to $4,175, their initial cost. Did you say ‘no one’s gonna buy them buddy’...guess you haven’t heard about the orders waiting at top London stores!
