Philips launched their 100 inch Ambilight LCD TV at the IFA 2006, which gave TV maniacs a new kind of experience. At European expo, on August 30, 2007, they outshone themselves by giving us a beauty by the name of Aurea, which is more aggressive take on ambient television lighting. Philips has invested roughly $68 million on their campaign themed ‘Seduction by Light’, where photographer Vincent Peters, Alber Elbaz and Paris-based jewelry designer, Lorenz Baumer joined film director Wong Kar Wai to create a campaign that used concept of seduction by light as inspiration.

The LCD offers 1080p resolution, 100Hz, have a 3ms response time, come in 42-inch sizes, perfect pixel HD engine and 8000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio. To take care of the audio, 26 mini drivers have been crammed underneath the frame, in a combination of 24 mini drivers and 2 subwoofer/mid speaker boxes. To top it all, there’s “four trillion colors” and three HDMI 1.3 inputs.

Ambilight is said to improve picture quality by making images seem sharper and helps to reduce eyestrain because there is less difference between the lighting on the screen and the surrounding area. Aurea with Ambilight is a pleasure to watch as it actually glows through the case border, creating a vibrant frame effect, and the woods that you see on the screen seem to stretch far beyond the boundaries!

Aurea is definitely the future of illuminated TV and it could radiate your living room for $6895. We sincerely hope the picture quality is worth the amount!
