As part of Sigma’s bumper lens launch, it has unveiled what might turn out to be the ultimate wildlife lens. The new APO 200-500 f.2.8 EX DG lens from the Sigma Corporation is being touted to be the world’s first lens to offer an f/2.8 aperture at 500mm focal length. This is gigantic like Godzilla and carries a whopping price tag of US $25,000. Better call it Sigzilla! Weighing in at nearly 16kg, the huge telephoto zoom lens uses a dedicated Li-ion battery to provide power for focusing and zooming. It was first introduced at last PMA show and is getting a new paint job at this year’s PMA show. This lens is best-suited for creating extraordinary image expression with various types of photography such as astrophotography, portraits, wildlife, sports. SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass and three ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements deliver outstanding correction for all type of aberrations. It lessens flare and provides high image quality from the extremely large aperture, thanks to the multi-layer lens coating. Wildlife photographers can adjust the focusing distances and focal lengths on the built-in LCD panel. The Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 EX DG, priced at $25K, will be available Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts.
At $25K, Sigzilla telephoto zoom lens is one sexy beast
