725000000 gundam
If you are a die-hard anime fan with a fortune to fulfill even the weirdest of your dreams, then this life-sized Gundam robot stands a chance with you. The price tag of US $725,000,000 makes me mum, but the features of this giant humanoid do full justice with the figure. The Gundam will be 18 meters (60 feet) tall with a weight of 43.4 metric tons (nearly 100,000 lbs). Mind that the price tag doesn’t include the cost of labor and the cost of the infrastructure needed to support the machine after you are on the monster for a walk. As shown in the anime, this Gundam won’t be to fly or have any sci-fi weaponry. It would be covered in aluminum alloy plating (instead of Gundanium) that costs $79,000,000. An IBM Blue Gene supercomputer ($1,550,000) would work as the Gundam’s computer system and the movements would be controlled by 30 giant 400KW motors (12 in the legs, 2 in the torso, 14 in the arms, and 2 in the neck). Considering the fact the Shinkansen bullet train uses a 300KW motor, you could easily imagine the power of the 400KW motor used in the Gundam. The motors would set you back $7.8 million and to power them, there is the equivalent of 7 Apache helicopter engines (an estimated $52 million each). For such a staggering price, you could buy yourself a fleet of crafts. I am worried if the $725 million Gundam would not destroy the ground beneath its feet on the move. Anyway, if you are falling short of the price, you can go for the $250,000 Platinum Gundam figurine from Bandai.
